about

Here are some details about how the "Writers On The Storm" tribute was re-done. The beginning of the song was the first Engineers in Your Ear sample ever. The bass line in the intro became the foundation of the entire track. Then, chopped up the keyboard line in the intro to make a syncopated 8 bar melody loop for the hook (or chorus) of the song.

It was now time to add MPC drums, bass, snare, and cymbals to compliment the bass line in a more hip hop way. The next addition was lots of different cymbals and percussion sounds to switch the sounds up through the song imitating the syncopated patterns of the hook's 8 bar melody loop. After doing this, we realized that the organ part in the song was totally awesome, but was not really in a place to sample from, especially with the other song samples already playing.

Paul quickly learned how to play the organ part, by ear, and recorded it. Then chopped up the organ part to create more variation at the end of the verses. By this point, we were pretty happy with the overall feel, sound, and variations. We felt it held true to the Doors' vibe with the solid bass line yet switched it up, almost in a Latin American way, with all the percussive syncopation to hold true to our Arizona Southwest heritage.

Then we came up with the awesome Writers idea, a play on words, which we hope/feel Jim Morrison would have approved of, and yet is a
tribute to him as well.

Then we recorded it with top of the line equipment.

lyrics

Fire to Paper and Rain with Pens
The writers on the storm are back at it again
again back at it is the storm to the writer
the Pen to the Paper and the Rain is on Fire

Till my cloud doesn’t cry, and the sun has a scorn
Till the Day I die, from the day I was born
Documentin images like nothin bring em into form
That’s my name next to author- I’m a writer on the storm
Get my beat poet on with my Beethoven with some Jim Morrison
and some double entan, I write far out lyrics like my pen was given birth on the planet Krypton
Do ya, do ya, what do ya paint pictures with, do you write stories, do you play instruments, draw with a fury or do you take photographs, or when someone smiles at you do you smile back?
My imagination has a plan of attack, I got 26 weapons 32 bars of facts
Let’s see, 3 DSP's gives me 96 tracks, through the doors of perception and I’m never lookin’ back
This is how I convey through what I say how I see other ways takin forays
As I write a story a rarity apparently at war with these words terribly I got a passion for inherently
And can you write through a storm, do you dive in your art to escape the norm, and self inform
- And for a second can you love what you hate
and can you mash it together and make us see something great?
(breathe) Have you ever felt something was unheard
So you flipped the inspiration as you wrote another word
& It not about who’s better like a file in a folder
This is art seen through the eye of the beholder
(quick breathe) All the creativity we’re generating in so many formulations
We’re the underground persuasion we keep writing these equations
on occasions to these pages its cremation but the ashes live for many generations

Fire to Paper and Rain with Pens
The writers on the storm are back at it again
again back at it is the storm to the writer
the Pen to the Paper and the Rain is on Fire

I was sittin in my bedroom writin up a storm
writin up a storm, I was writing up a storm
now i'm sittin in the studio cookin up them beats
cookin up them beats, I was cookin up them beats
now I roll through the drum like this
so listen to the rhythm of the bass as it hits
and I never really thought I could flow like this
when the hi hats, drums, and snares together coexist
rollin with a little bit of sentimental rhythm
ima give you real the story with no lies in em
that's the truth when i'm up in the booth
I made a promise to you - keepin it fresh and new
now i'm runnin up the side of the wall
and the storms comin in, so the rain will fall
the thunder and the lightening light up the sky
on a night like this - it's time to ride!
so I roll downstairs to grab a pair of shoes
cause I ain't seen a storm like this since 92
and I don' really want to get stranded outside
so i'm wearin my night vision as I step into the night Ha -
ah yah, it's a beautiful evening
but everybody's hidin behind the walls and ceilings
that's right - there in their house
while the writers on the storm are out rollin around
listen to the sound as the storm hits the ground
the bass will pound and then the rhythm is found
this right here is a typical day
for your boy Kylo Rich and the homie Play---
back to the matter at hand
you gotta understand how we build this brand
we start with the truth, then we think about you
tell me what would you do if you were in our shoes?

about

Engineers in Your Ear Los Angeles, California

"E.Y.E brings a good times sound that can easily translate from a bouncing club to a beachside campfire. While checking out their new project Aint no Sunshine I proclaimed “that’s my favorite track” at least five times and was left with a get up and do some living feeling when it was over. This album...without the cliche quotes or any agenda besides go hard or go home." - Locash Magazine ... more
